Jim Stringer & AM Band @ Giddy Ups (03/03/2011)
Jim and the guys are scheduled to play at Giddy Ups the first and third Thursdays through May of this year. That means we get to see one of our favorite bands close to home for a while. Of course, if we can get everyone to start showing up, they might do this longer. After all, Jim’s Country Jam will be celebrating it’s third year at Waterloo Icehouse next month and that started with an “experiment”. The Thursday shows are early shows (7pm to 10pm) so we don’t have the excuse of having to work the next day. :) Another reason to be there is that you never know who will be in the audience that Jim might get to join him and the band on stage. Tonight it was Jim Lutz, Jason Arnold, and Beth Chrisman. Sure hope we can all help support this live music!

Thought you might enjoy this “little” instrumental. Well, Jim and the guys make it seem easy, but maybe not for the average person. :)
Dead Sweethearts Ball @ Ruta Maya (02/12/2011)
Every year Valentines Day is set aside for lovers, except for one event…..the Dead Sweethearts Ball. The night is filled with murder and mayhem immortalized by some of the best musicians in town. The lovely Ms K keeps track of how many offed(?) as the crowd hoots and hollers at each killing. This year, the red hue of Ruta Maya added a special atmosphere to the festivities.
You never know in advance just who all will be taking to the stage but, the core band consists of Teri Joyce, Roger Wallace, Jim Stringer, T Jarrod Bonta, Lisa Pankratz, and Brad Fordham. ”Guests” this year included Ted Roddy, Jen Miori, The Carper Family, Suzanne Van Tassel, Brennan Leigh, Noel McKay, Ruby Dee, and……well, we’re sure we’re forgetting someone. :(
After the pictures, be sure to check out the video of Roger Wallace’s version of “Delilah” at the end. Looks like Roger was actually grinning…..an evil evil grin! :)

Jim Stringer & AM Band @ Giddy Ups (01/15/2011)
The rain continued to fall chilling us the bone! We’d been out visiting a home-bound friend, running errands, and feeling pretty blah about the whole day when we remembered Jim Stringer and The AM Band were playing at Giddy Ups……and Giddy Ups has a fireplace! Well, really, the fireplace was just an added plus because we couldn’t miss these guys playing so close to home. When these guys are on stage, there’s a lot of dancing going on and friends visiting, but…..more than that…..there’s a lot of “entertainment”. Even if you’re not a dancer, we can guarantee you’ll be happy to just sit and soak up the music.
The best news was Jim’s announcement that they will be playing at Giddy Ups the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month starting February 3rd. They’ll play from 8 to 11pm so it’ll be a great start to the weekend that ends early enough you won’t feel too terribly tired when you stumble into work on Friday (not counting any hangovers, that is). Come out and see these guys…..and tell all your friends, too!!
- The AM Band! "AM" stands for "Austin Music". The name was inspired from Lisa Pankratz's comment that "there's only one band in Austin and all the musicians play in it".
Jim Stringer & The AM Band @ Giddy Ups (01/15/2011)
- Jim Stringer on vocals and lead guitar. But, you might find him sitting down at the keyboard or pedal steel sometimes, too.
Jim Stringer & The AM Band @ Giddy Ups (01/15/2011)
- James Shelton on pedal steel. He can make it cry.....or make really wierd sounds.....and it's all good!

- Jim started his "stroll" to "take the music to the people". We had the camera ready. Then, he came to us and we were mesmerized....forgetting all about the camera until the very last second. Sure glad this picture came out because we sure didn't take time to focus!! :)

- T Jarrod Bonta is unbelievable on the keyboards. He also told us that he was just 13 the first time he played this bar. Didn't ask if it was named Giddy Ups then, but sure was an fun fact!

T Jarrod Bonta @ The Broken Spoke (01/12/2011)
Twice a month, T and friends play “the front room” at the Broken Spoke and have a guest join them. This time it was one of our other friends, Ms Susan Maxey! We had so much fun….just wish I’d gotten a picture of Jim as the front legs on his pedal steel started collapsing as he was playing it. Being the professional he is, he just kept playing as we all held our breath. :)
- Our host, T......singer, songwriter, "A List" keyboard player, and just all round nice guy. :)

Jim’s Country Jam @ Waterloo Icehouse (12/19/2010)
It’s getting close to Christmas…..everyone is getting stressed out with all the hustle and bustle. Nothing better to help you de-stress than Jim’s Country Jam. The jam is so much fun because of all the talented musicians, and friends. But, added to all that, the staff at Waterloo is wonderful! They do a great job of making you feel at home and the food is always great! If you’ve never been to one of the jams, you really should check it out. It happens the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month. And, if you’ve been to one, you know what we’re talking about and we’ll see you there next time!! :)

Our favorite “Christmas Song” is Merle Haggard’s 1973 #1 hit, If We Make Through December. Can’t count the number of times musicians have told us they like the song, but it’s a hard one for the band to play without a lot of practice. This year, though, Jim and the band agreed to try it for me at one of their gigs. After 37 years, we finally got to hear the song played live and loved it. The band did it again for us tonight…after a little trouble counting it off. :)
How many “country” bands do you know that throw in the theme song from “A Peanuts Christmas” cartoon? This one does…..and has fun doing it! Although, it just wasn’t the same without Teri Joyce and Jim doing the dancing. :)
Teri & The Tagalongs @ Giddy Ups (12/17/2010)
We learned a few things about Teri tonight. First, the girl does not stand still! You would not believe the number of blurred pictures we have of her. Then, she has a great sense of humor. And finally, she has the ability to convince friends to do things they might not ordinarily do…..like get a country band to play “Linus & Lucy, The Peanuts Theme” and then get them to dance to it with her. Yes, Teri & Jim, you were adorable and Warner Bros. called to see if you would audition for a remake of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. We think you’d probably get the parts. (Oh why didn’t we have the video camera ready?)
- The Tagalongs tonight were T Jarrod Bonta, Jim Stringer, Ralph Power, and Randy Glines
