Twice a month, T and the guys take up residence in the Broken Spoke’s front room for a couple of hours of great music with a featured guest. The guest tonight was Ms Rosie Flores! Nope, can’t miss that even if we have to leave work early to get there in time.

Jim’s Country Jam @ Waterloo Ice House (07/17/2011)

What words can we use to describe the twice-a-month country jam at Waterloo Ice House? Pretty sure we’ve already used wonderful, entertaining, astounding, talented, fun, excellent, surprising, and several others. So, this time, all we’re gonna say is, “Ya shoulda been there!”. If you weren’t there, then all we can say is, “Ya missed a heck of a show and need to be at the next one!”.

Jim Stringer @ Giddy Ups (06/02/2011)

It was another fun night when Jim Stringer and his AM Band took to the stage at Giddy Ups. That’s always to be expected, but there was added “fun” this time. First was special guest, Walt Lewis. We hadn’t heard Walt before although he’s no stranger to the Austin music scene…just hasn’t been playing much lately. Then, there were some special fans in the audience. There were two hearing impaired ladies. Their friends stood in front of the band and signed the songs to them. THAT was fun and interesting. Sweet sweet people! You just never know who will show up or what will happen when Jim and the guys play!

There are only so many words to describe the fun everyone has when Jim and the guys take to the stage. So, we’ve given up trying to find new ones. Whether it’s “Bobby Time, Bobby Time, Bobby Time” (a minimum of three songs made popular by someone named Bobby), music trivia, guests, original songs or covers, stories, or just plain good music, Jim and the guys entertain everyone, every time. They must do it for the love of what they’re doing because they give a full out show whether they’re playing to 10 or 10,000.

Giddy Ups’ Spring Fling 2011 (03/17/2011)

Day 2 of the Spring Fling was honky-tonk all day long! We love all music, but have to admit today’s program was our favorite…..well…..one of the favorites. :) It was also a perfect example of “there’s only one band in Austin”. There were players that would finish a set with one singer and get on stage with the next. A couple of them played with 5 bands including fronting their own. It was fun, too, when some of our favorites got on stage to help out with harmony on a song. All in all……a perfect evening for a music lover!

(The bands we saw were: Jim Ray Wylie, Ted Roddy & The Hit Kickers, Jim Stringer & The AM Band, Li’l Mo & The Monicats, Arty Hill & The Pearl Dusters, Teri Joyce & The Tagalongs, Roger Wallace)

: Jim Ray Wylie - We'd only heard Jim one other time and weren't sure where he fit in the Honky-tonk. But, when we walked in and realized we knew everyone on the bandstand, the "wondering" was over! Great show!

Teri & The Tagalongs @ Giddy Ups (03/12/2011)

Teri and The Tagalongs always put on a good show and tonight wasn’t any different. These guys and gals seem to really enjoy their time on stage and it shows. With a mix of good country music and lots of originals enhanced by great harmonies, they keep the crowd dancing, laughing, singing along, and smiling! We were starting to wind down but just couldn’t convince ourselves to leave for fear of missing something. Besides, it was T’s birthday!
