Austin Outhouse Reunion Day 3 @ Giddy Ups (04/11/2010)
Sunday and Day 3 of the reunion find a very tired staff. That soon ended though as the musicians started taking the stage and telling their stories. An example of how the music happened was Shelley King’s set. She arrived and wasn’t sure who was backing her. Before her set was over, there were 7 members in the “band” and they wouldn’t all fit on the stage…..especially when Ponty Bone and Chip Dolan had a round of “dueling accordians”!
But, when Gurf Morlix took the stage, it was just him and a guitar. For an hour he quietly told stories about his time when The Duct Tape Messiah, Blaze Foley and he were roommates. The club was packed and you could have heard a pin drop. No one made a sound for fear of missing a single word or breaking the spell.
Planning for and working the reunion was hard and tiring and we know it will probably be a while before the next one. But, whenever it’s time, we will be there. What a magic three days!

Austin Outhouse Reunion Day 2 @ Giddy Ups (04/10/2010)
After yesterday, who would have thought there would be a full day of the same today. Of course, the most excitement came at the end when even CNN showed up, interviewed a few people, shot a lot of video, and the Austin Outhouse Reunion ended up on the national news. THAT wasn’t expected by anyone when this celebration was planned!!

Austin Outhouse Reunion Day 1 @ Giddy Ups (04/09/2010)
Back in the 80′s there was a little place down by University of Texas called The Austin Outhouse. It was this type of place that led Austin to being called “Live Music Capital of the World”. Singers and songwriters hung out there that later made great names for themselves…..or not. Lots of stories, lots of music, lots of shenanigans.
We weren’t lucky enough to experience it ourselves, but have been told so much about it, we feel like we were there. And for one weekend in April, we were transported back in time with a lot of the originals…..a little older…..some, a little wiser….some not. :) All are still as talented as they ever were.
This was a reunion for the musicians, but we got to watch, listen, and enjoy. There was a lot of laughter, a few tears, and uncountable number of hugs. There was a small cover charge with the proceeds going to benefit HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) which has helped so many of our favorite musicians.
