Sunset Valley Boys @ Evangelines (07/02/2011)

The first Saturday of every month, Sunset Valley Boys takes up residence in the red corner of Evangeline’s.  The food is great, the music is even better, and the friends are awesome.  Now, since all of that is true, and there are so many friends, sometimes it gets just a little crowded.  If you’re kinda late…..like we were this time…..you might find yourself sitting to the side of the band.  Now, don’t get us wrong, that doesn’t take away from the experience…..just makes for limited, but interesting, photo angles…..especially when all you have for a camera is your cell phone! :)

Movers Olympics @ Giddy Ups (06/26/2011)

Not all our fun comes from music, it comes from some of the “unique” events we find in Austin, too.  The latest was an “olympics” competition between moving companies in town.  We admire the guys and gals that earn a living doing all the packing and heavy lifting involved in moving a home from one location to another.  We admire them because, in all weather conditions, usually with a smile, they do what we don’t like to do…..lift heavy boxes and move furniture.  We’ve used movers ever since we decided we weren’t young pups anymore, neither were our friends, and we’d accumulated too much stuff to move on our own!  Yep, they are a special breed! :)

JWW & the Prospectors @ Giddy Ups (06/25/2011)

This was our first time to see JWW & The Prospectors, but we sure plan on it not being the last.  What a fun group!  Swing & honky-tonk music served up with lots of talent and energy.  There was dancin’, swingin’, jumpin’, singin’…….and that was just onstage.  The audience was having a blast, too! Shoot, we got tired just watching them. :)  (Sorry we didn’t get everyone’s name….we definitely will the next time!)

Scott Wayne, Fond Kiser, Watts Brothers, & Sam Bentley (06/24/2011)

We’re not sure how to describe this night…..or how much fun we had.  It started Tuesday when the phone rang and it was our friend Scott Wayne.  He was in town for the week and Nancy had talked him into doing a repeat of his “famous” Friday night happy hour one-man shows.  So, that’s where it started……with Scott at Giddy Ups! :)

When Scott finished his happy hour show, we headed out to The Blue Bamboo where Fond Kiser, was doing his “One Man, One Guitar” show.  Lots of fun watching these two friends make great music.  Wish we’d had the camera ready when Fond saw us!  Priceless!!

After Fond’s show, Scott stayed behind to help him load out while we headed back to Giddy Ups to check out The Watts Brothers.  When the guys made it to Giddy Ups, we all headed over to The Stardust to see Sam Bentley.  We left the camera in the car at Stardust (not a smart idea but it was still there when we came out), so all we have of that show are our cell phone pictures.  Let’s just say Sam’s band was great and it was so cool when Scott and Fond jumped to the mics for “Sweet Home Alabama”.

What a night…..what memories. :)

Fond Kiser @ Giddy Ups (06/10/2011)

Another fun night with Fond Kiser and Los Kickers at Giddy Ups.  Hmmmm……how many ways can we say “fun”, “great music”, “you missed a heck of a show”?  Well, we don’t know, but they all apply when these guys take to the stage.  Whether you’re a dancer or a listener, there’s something for everyone!

Jim Stringer @ Giddy Ups (06/02/2011)

It was another fun night when Jim Stringer and his AM Band took to the stage at Giddy Ups. That’s always to be expected, but there was added “fun” this time.  First was special guest, Walt Lewis.  We hadn’t heard Walt before although he’s no stranger to the Austin music scene…just hasn’t been playing much lately.  Then, there were some special fans in the audience.  There were two hearing impaired ladies.  Their friends stood in front of the band and signed the songs to them.  THAT was fun and interesting. Sweet sweet people!  You just never know who will show up or what will happen when Jim and the guys play! :)
