Thanks to Weldon & his MySpace page for this photo
I didn't have one good enough for an intro......yet!

I've constantly said Austin is a great place to live if you love good music.  This young man is further proof that the statement is true.

A friend called and asked if I'd ever seen Weldon perform.  I hadn't so agreed to meet her at Giddy Ups one May night that he was playing.  By the end of the evening...I was a fan!

With a combination of originals and covers ranging from Hank Sr to Dale Watson, he kept the crowd entertained and dancing with "real" country music.

We had a chance to visit with Weldon when the band took their ONE break.  He's a native Texan that has lived a lot of places due to the time he spent in the service.  He likes to play his music at a level everyone can hear......but people can still talk.  That night, he hit the volume just right.  He doesn't use a set list, preferring instead to read the crowd and play what they want.  He does a good job of reading!

A few nights after the Giddy Ups gig, we went to see Weldon and the guys at Patsy's Cafe.  They had a few problems with the sound, but the talent still showed through.

His band is excellent......and sparse compared to what some musicians use.  Weldon plays the lead, Trey on bass, Wes on drums, and L.C. on steel.  Oh, he might have a larger band if needed, but this is just perfect for a normal Texas honky-tonk.

I'm gonna tell ya......see this guy if you have a chance......you won't be disappointed!
