Ricky was one of many really good musicians that we knew about,
wanted to see, but just never got any of his shows worked into the schedule.
He was at the Tin Star show in July, 2003, where I first saw Kevin Fowler perform
and we met Jason Allen. But, he got on stage for just a couple of songs
so we couldn't count that as a Ricky show.....but, we vowed we would be seeing
him again.
Then, the 'awful' happened.....Ricky was in an auto accident, hurt his back, and was concerned he wouldn't be able to maintain the rigorous schedule required to make a music career work. We attended a benefit at Hill's Cafe held to help raise money for his medical bills. Ricky was there, but wasn't in any shape to 'entertain'. Then, in November, he had made an almost complete recovery and was having his annual 'Birthday Bash' at Club 21. I was NOT missing that show! That was the beginning of a devoted fan! We had a chance to visit with Ricky before the show. Then, after the show, when I went to tell Ricky how much I had enjoyed it, he treated us as long lost friends. He definitely knows how to treat fans! That winter, Ricky hosted an acoustic show at Hill's Cafe every week. And, every week, we were in the audience....usually front row! That's where we really got to know him since it's an intimate setting and he could interact with the entire crowd. Since then, our love for Ricky has only grown. We're so happy for him and the success he's enjoying. And, we love those hugs we get when he sees us. We can't make it to all his shows, but we sure try!
Ricky released his third CD 'A Step In the Right Direction' at Hill's Cafe on 10/29/2004. If you're going to add a CD to your collection, you'd be smart to choose this one. Check out the pictures I posted of the release party here. If you ever have chance to see Ricky in person.....don't miss it!! There's nothing like seeing a 'star' before the rest of the world discovers how really good they are! You'll be able to spot Ricky before he goes on stage. He's the really cute, tall one in starched shirt, creased jeans, boots, and cowboy hat! ;)
