About a year and a half ago (2003), a friend that works for Kevin told us we really needed to come to a show. I'd heard a lot of Kevin on the radio and always liked it. But, we really weren't going to shows like that. We were staying close to home....close to our friends.....seeing the same bands.....every weekend.
One night in July, Jason Allen was opening for Kevin in Giddings at the Tin Star. I'd been wanting to see Kevin, and Dobie had been wanting to see Jason. We still weren't going. Instead, we went to The Fast Car Bar where our friends were. After listening to some really awful music for a half hour, I looked at Dobie and said, 'Jason's going to do Lucky Arms in about 45 minutes.....Kevin's going to do Beer Bait and Ammo in a couple of hours.' Her response? 'Let's go!' The rest, as they say, is history! Obviously, we got there late. Jason was already on stage. I don't think it really sunk in how good he was that night.....I was still in 'shock' that we were even there! Toward the end of Jason's set, people started moving toward the stage and you could feel the excitement of the crowd start to build. Sometimes, it pays to know someone......Dobie and I were given 'prime seats'. ;) Then, Kevin went on stage! The show was on! Kevin gets the audience involved. They sing along with every song. There's one little boy that attends every 'all-ages' venue, spends the night sitting on his Dad's shoulders, and sings every word to every song complete with imitating Kevin's moves. Kevin has gotten him on stage, and I can assure you....the kid knows his Kevin! Since that night, I can't count the number of Kevin's shows we've gone to and the excitement is always the same. We've gotten to know band members, staff, family, and friends. Kevin calls us 'Thelma and Louise'. We don't always take pictures....sometimes we just can't get close enough! We always have fun, though! This past summer (2004), Kevin signed a contract with Equity Records releasing his first national CD, Loose, Loud and Crazy. Now, the rest of the country is starting to learn what Texas has known for a long time......Kevin Fowler is GOOD! He's still the same 'Kevin' though and we love him for that! If you haven't seen Kevin, make it a point to! You won't be disappointed. Just make sure you get there early or you won't be close enough to get the full effect of his energy. And, at the end of the show....hang around and say 'hi' to him. He stays and signs autographs until the last fan has been greeted.
