What can be said about a geetar picker that plays, sings, writes songs, supports other musicians, entertains....almost every night of the week.....and is a true gentleman? That such a person doesn't exist? Well, you haven't met Jim Stringer! We hadn't met him either until this summer. But it didn't take us long to become mesmerized by him. In fact, in the beginning, we showed up at so many gigs, we felt we had to assure him, the band, AND their families that we weren't "stalkers". (I think they still wonder!) Besides being a consummate showman, Jim surrounds himself with the best musicians Austin, TX, has to offer. T Jarrod Bonta, Ralph Power, Roy Glaze, Karl Kissee, and Charlie Irwin are just a few. But, Jim doesn't stop there.....if he doesn't have a gig and someone needs help, he steps in. Just ask people like Roger Wallace, Teri Joyce, or Ted Roddy to name a few. It doesn't seem there are any musicians in this town that don't know Jim. They've either played with him, or him with them, or they've been to his shows and have great admiration for his talent. Over the years.....in various venues.....Jim has hosted his "Country Jam Session" where musicians can network and audiences are treated to some of the best players and singers in town. Right now (Nov. 2007), Jim's looking for a new "Country Jam Session" home since the last was forced to close when the building was bought and an lease agreement couldn't be reached. Watch Jim's schedule and plan to go see him whether he's playing with his AM Band (AM = Austin Music), or sitting in with someone else. Then sit back, relax, and prepare to be to be entertained. If you're feeling all alone in the world, ask for "I'll Give You Miles". For a smile, ask for "Easy to Love", ask for "Here's the River" for good laugh, or his updated version of Marty Robbins' hit, "Devil Woman". And don't forget all the "golden oldies" he has in his big book!!!!! www.jimstringer.us www.texashummingbirds.com www.twangguru.com www.musicroom.org |
