The trip started bright and early Wednesday morning. Well...it
was early. We had gone to Nephews the night before, so I'm
not sure how 'bright' we were! Dorothy, Lew, Jay, Lorraine, Nat, and Eloise left on Tuesday and spent the night in Del Rio. We called them to see how far ahead of us they were when we got to Del Rio. Turns out they were just pulling out of the campgrounds. The rest of the trip was spent getting ahead of them, stopping, and then passing them again. One of the places we stopped was Langtry where the Honorable Judge Roy Bean held court. All I can say is 'amazing'! Read more about Langtry at www.texasescapes.com. We finally got to the campgrounds, got the tent up and settled in just a little bit before dark. As it got dark.....we got cold. Thankfully, Lew had brought the wood we'd sent home with him last year! Elizabeth and Thayron were bringing the wood, but they weren't arriving for another 24 hours!!! There isn't any formal entertainment on Wednesday so when we finally got tired of being cold, we turned in early. Got to admit, though, that 2am walk from the warm sleeping bag to the potty room was mighty cold!! Thursday began with the quest to get the coffee pot to 'perk' coffee on the camp stove. Gave up that idea and just heated water for the 'coffee-bags' we'd brought for emergencies. By noon, we were alive and getting to know our neighbors! The rest of the trip is pretty well documented in the pictures. Some of the highlights of the trip included:Dobie introduced me to the Terlingua Trading Company Got acquainted with the music of Max Stalling (don't miss him!) A 'cocktail party' put on our neighbors, The Texas Show Team James Hand's show and visit with him and the band afterwards Check out the pictures to see the fun we had. Then, plan on joining us next year!! |
