Saturday...a road trip...my present for Dobie's birthday...and it rained!!

My idea was to leave early, go through the hill country to see how many bluebonnets were in bloom, stop in Fredericksburg for lunch.  Then, a little side trip to Luckenbach.  The day was going to be topped by going to The Ranch at Lake Buchanan to see Southern Image...with John Hardwick.

John is a old friend of Dobie's and we hadn't seen him in almost a year.  For those of you who don't know, he was indirectly responsible for Dobie and I meeting. 

Besides, we love him.....and we love to hear him sing!

However.....as 'they' say......the best laid plans of mice and (wo)men are doomed.  It rained.....all day.   Not weather for traveling the winding roads of the Texas Hill Country.  Some of the roads you don't want to travel in dry weather!  Dobie was ready to call the whole day off but I wouldn't let her.  We were going!!

When we got to the club, the band was already on stage (note....The Ranch starts at 8:30, not 9:00 like every other place!!!).  The club was packed, but we finally found a table where we could see the band.  Maybe not up front where we want, but.....we were in 'heaven'....John is as good today as the first time we heard him.

 And the rest of band is dern good, too!!!!  ;)

We surprised John.....he hadn't gotten my email.  You should've seen his face when Dobie walked up behind him and put her hand on his back.   I really wish I could have gotten a picture of that.....two friends seeing each other after a long absence.   It was priceless.

John's Dad and step-mother were there as well and it was really nice to meet them.
