1/21 Dale Watson @ Antone's # 100_2132
Dale Watson and The Lonestars

It's very unusual for us to go 'downtown' Austin for a show.  But, this one had both Dale Watson and Billy Joe Shaver on the list of performers and started at 7:30....that made it 'do-able'.  :)  The show was a benefit for a lady all the musicians know that needs a hip replacement.  She doesn't have insurance so the musicians decided to do what they could.....rallying to a cause by putting on a benefit show.

Antone's is another of the historic clubs in Austin known for artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn and others playing there to packed houses.   The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly, there's a big dance floor, two bars, and some of the scariest folding chairs I've ever sat in!  :)

The first act was unknown to me, two fellows (those are their guitars in the picture) and a bass player.  All I can say is that the bass player was awesome!  The second act was a real treat.....Calvin Russell with David and Leland Waddell.  Those of you from Austin may know those names...some may not, but you should!  Better yet.....the links below will take you to their websites where you can learn all about these artists.

But......for me......the third act was the best.  Dale, Gene, Don-Don, and Tom Lewis took possession of the stage and held us in a trance for a little over an hour.  I haven't gotten to see the guys as much this year as last and it was good to just 'soak up' the music.  Dobie has said they 'make her heart happy'.  Well, I'd gone to the show feeling a lot of stress over everything going on at work and with the holidays.....but by the end of the first song my heart was 'smiling'.  I've never figured out how the guys do it, but they always put their audience at ease and allow them to forget everything in their lives for a while.....except the music.
