| 1/19 | Ricky Calmbach @ Club 21 # 100_1750 |
|
The night before this, we'd gone to see Dale Watson at the Broken Spoke and met two guys visiting from Ireland. They were asking us for a recommendation of who to go see on Saturday night. We didn't know! Dale had a 'private gig' and we'd been planning to see Ricky at Club 21 for so long, we hadn't even checked to see who else was playing. Well.....Anton and Stephen were looking for 'classic country' and when we told them about Ricky, they were really interested. But, they didn't have a car and the taxi fare to Uhland would have been a bear!! What to do?Well....Albert offered to pick them up. He'd forgotten UT had a football game that would be ending about the time we needed to be at the hotel!! It all worked out, though, and we made it in plenty of time. For those of you who have never been to Club 21, keep in mind it is out in the middle of NOwhere!! Imagine the guys going home to Ireland and trying to explain a trip to a Texas Dancehall in Uhland, TX! :) When we got to the club, we found out they were having a going away party for Caleb who is leaving the band to go play with Jason Allen. He did a special solo at the end of the evening....throwing drumsticks out at the audience. Several of us came home with our own piece of 'Caleb History'. We had a great time and I think the guys really enjoyed the trip. They got to meet the musicians and Anton got to pretend he was driving Albert's 'Big Man Truck'! We even took pictures of them under the Club 21 sign as proof of where they'd been. There's never a dull moment when Ricky and the band take to the stage! |
