Lampasas is a small town about an hour northwest of Austin. It's also the home town of Albert, so....of course....we were going to be there. Dobie met me at the office and we headed out....in the middle of 'rush hour' traffic. It took a little longer than an hour, and that was just getting to the edge of town!!! The trip was worth it. When we got to the club, we found Albert's parents, Peggy and Albert, Sr., were already there as were Dennis and Mary Ellen. The 'fan club' was well represented, especially after Teree arrived. We were just missing a few members of the band! Getting there early allowed us to get pictures of the new drum Albert was trying out...a huge Lone Star Beer can! Not sure he's going to keep it, but it sure was fun for the night. Laurie arrived a little later with a gal from work that's here from London. Vivian got a good taste of a small Texas honky-tonk and country music!! It was fun having Albert, Sr., get up and join the band on his accordion, but, when 'our' Albert turned the drums over to his Dad, the place went crazy! Albert learned to play from his Dad so it was really special....even more so when Albert stepped in by his Dad and they both were playing. We were laughing and crying at the same time!! If you haven't seen the John Bendele Band in action, try to get to one of their gigs. We promise you will have lots of fun and hear a lot of good music! www.johnbendele.com |
